As Salt Lake City is fast becoming the new hub for high-tech business software success, local legislation in Utah is attempting to prepare their young residents for a future in information technology.

Senator Howard Stephenson wants students in Salt Lake City and the rest of Utah to start learning computer coding as early as elementary school. Utah does not currently teach business software coding that early, despite the fact that at least 14 other states in the USA already do. Sen. Stephenson plans to run legislation addressing computer coding during the next session in January 2015.

This is a great step in the right direction for Salt Lake City and Utah in general. As Salt Lake City is placing itself at the forefront of high-tech businesses and business software, it would only benefit the state of Utah if its denizens become more proficient in coding and other information technology products/procedures. Preparing the youth of today for the challenges and opportunities of tomorrow is something the USA prides itself on, and with Salt Lake City being a leader in business technology and software this should be a priority.

Business technology is advancing faster than ever before, with products such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and other business software driving a lot of the current innovation and demand for fresh new coders and developers. To ensure that Salt Lake City and the rest of the state of Utah continue to be at the head of the pack in terms of business technology, these areas must pour their efforts into educating their youth about the basics of new-age IT practices and procedures. This is the only way to stay ahead of the game and continue being the most sought after location for business software and technology start ups and established corporations alike.
